A keynote address will be made by an administrator from the U.S. Department of Education to the 150 advisers of the National College Advising Corps (NCAC) at UNC-Chapel Hill Wednesday.
Wednesday (Aug. 5)
Noon to 2 p.m.

Greg Darnieder, special assistant for college access within the U.S. Department of Education, will discuss President Barack Obama's goal of regaining the nation's leadership in degree attainment by 2020. One of the architects of this work, Darnieder will address the importance of access and national service during his first trip to North Carolina since joining the administration.
The National College Advising Corps, with headquarters at Carolina, is the first national effort by colleges and universities that places recent college graduates into high schools and community colleges to increase access to higher education for first generation, low-income and underrepresented students.
The Advising Corps was recently cited in a study on post-secondary education funded by the Pew Charitable Trusts as a "remarkable program aiming to supplement the efforts of public school counselors."
