Ilana Krieger – College Adviser at Fannett-Metal HS and McConnellsburg HS

A few of my favorite moments have actually been working with parents of first generation college students. Many of the seniors at Fannett-Metal High School are first generation. Their parents almost always want to help but don't know where to begin and feel like they are removed and displaced from the college process. It feels so rewarding knowing how much the parents appreciate my taking the time to help them fill out the FAFSA and explain the college application and financial aid processes. When the parents are informed they are so grateful for the opportunity to not only be involved in their child's college application process but to also feel more confident about their involvement.
